China Glaze Tempest - meh

Last weekend I was extremely stressed out and decided that I needed a new nail polish in order to feel better. :) I popped into my Sally Beauty Supply hoping to score a polish from China Glaze's Bahama Blue collection, even though they've come out with Romantique since then, as my SBS is a little slow on the whole new collection thing. Alas, the Bahama Blues were gone and Romantique was taking their place. Romantique isn't really my thing so I decided to pick a polish from China Glaze's regular collection. That was hard ... there were so many pretty colors! Eventually I settled on Tempest, a bluey purpley color that looked very awesome and intruiging. Once on the nail though, I realized that Tempest has a pearl finish. I'm not a huge fan of pearl finishes ... I don't know why, they just irritate me. So poop. Also the application was not so great, I had to use 4 coats to get a good opacity and no streaks. Plus I wanted the color to be more blue than it is. This picture makes it look bluer than it is, it's really like a dark periwinkle that learns towards the purple side. So I'm not really digging this color. Its not that I hate it or anything, its just kind of blah.

  1. I just bought Tempest too and while I love the color, I also found it went on quite streaky. So did Platinum Silver (only 2 CG polishes I've bought so far). Irritates me since sooo many claim CG has such smooth coverage!

  2. Anonymous - I would try some other CGs before giving up on the brand completely - they make so many great colors! You just seem to have picked out some really crappy colors, unfortunately. :( I really like the Bahama Blues and Summer Days collection, try out some polishes from them! :)

  3. Love your blog! Sorry you didn't like TEMPEST. I LOVE it. CG has been a staple for me for years! (I now have both daughters hooked on it as well!) Another color you might like better is called "2nite" by CG from the OMG collection - which has lots of pretty blue/purples. For a bargain when you are ready to buy, check out this site: www.nailbeauty4u.com.

  4. Anonymous - Thanks! I do love CG, just not this particular color. :) I adore the OMG collection! I only own 2 of the polishes though - OMG and LOL, but I use them both quite a lot.
