I'm a Tomboy No More

This is a crappy picture, sorry. But it's a freaking awesome color. Tomboy No More is pretty much my favorite red. It is a dark red almost-jelly, making it look like coagulated blood on the nail. Yesss! :) You can see how much I've used of it ... down to the 'i' in Essie. Haha.
Tomboy No More is from Essie's Fall 2009 collection, a pretty good collection. Not nearly as good as the Winter collection though. ;)
Application is a little iffy, as the almost-jelly thing makes it a little thick and sheer-ish. I used 3 coats. Another crappy picture for your viewing pleasure ... I don't know why I wasn't able to take any decent pictures.
I wore this to my graduation party last Friday! :) It looked very nice with my dress. Here is my dress. :)

Zoya Jo

This one I can't think of without thinking of Little Women. And I think it might be a color Jo would like, seeing as Jo does not like girly ... if they had named a pastel pink Jo, I would have been upset. ;)
Jo is a soft blue, almst periwinkle, from the Spring Twist collection. I've heard some people call this cornflower blue, but I disagree with that. Cornflower, to me, is a brighter blue.
I wish that Jo wasn't so purpley, it kind of ruins the polish for me. I'm more in the mood for an assertive blue, not a wishy-washy one. Perhaps if I had worn this during the Spring (May in Texas is Summer, haha!) I would like it better.
Not that this is an ugly polish. It's very pretty. I'm just not in the mood for it. Ooops!
Application was very nice, as usual with Zoya.

p.s. Please ignore my messed-up pointer finger! I was too lazy to fix it.

Personal Crisis, yo

Did y'all know that Orlando Bloom is my longtime boyfriend? You can imagine, then, why this report (and this one too) has made me seriously unhappy. Indeed, how can I be happy if the love of my love is cheating on me with a Victoria's Secret supermodel?
Ahhh, this is horrible, HORRIBLE!
When I first read about this agonizingly awful engagement I moooaned and said to my sister in a small voice, "Jessica? ... ... ... ORLANDO BLOOM IS ENGAAAAAAGED!" And promptly commenced weeping. Well, not really. But I certainly felt like it. How could he do this to me?

Zoya Trixie

Hello ladies, so sorry to have abondoned you these last few days! I've been so busy that I literally haven't been online since Saturday. :S
I have Trixie for y'all today, a fantastic reflective silver with a foil finish. It's so shiny and silvery that it almost looks like I stuck aluminum foil over my nails. I love it.
Trixie had Zoya's signature application, smooth and flawless. I used 3 coats, but probably could have used 2.
I stupidly put this on the night before I went to the beach, and it was wrecked in the first 1/2 hour after I got to the beach ... the sand and surf really do a number on your nails!

Sula Nail Polish, Yay or Nay?

Have y'all heard of this brand of nail polish yet? I found it while flipping through the Ulta catalogue. The polish is water-based, and supposedly peels off the nail so that you don't have to use remover ...
What do y'all think of this? Do you like that idea or not? I, personally, find it weird. Haha! I don't really want my polish to just peel off, I'd like for it to stay on a while. Here is the link to the Sula website. They've only got 4 colors on the website, but Ulta has 12 colors. Whatever.
Let me know your opinion in the comments! :)

Zoya America

I just want to break out and sing God Bless America when I think of this name. :D Actually, I don't just want to break and sing, I do break out and sing, b/c that's what I do. Not a shy person by any means! Plus, once you've been in choir 7 yrs, you don't really care who you sing in front of. ;)
Anywho, about the polish. America is from the La-Di-Da collection, and is a true tomato red. It's a bit bluer than the picture shows. Not a terribly unique color, but my stash of reds is sadly underdeveloped, so I don't really have any color like this besides Rimmel Passion, and that is a good deal oranger than this.
Application was bea-uuuuu-tiful, perfection in 2 coats. I wore it to my piano recital, I like red nails with the black and white piano. :) My sister wore China Glaze Wagon Trail ... she always refuses to wear 'normal' colors, she only liked the dirtier, funkier colors, like Wagon Trail and Lincoln Park After Dark and Essie Sag Harber. :)
Oo boy, got off on a tangent. I do that a lot. haha.
I know I said this before when I posted about OPI I'm Not Really A Waitress, but I just love red nail polish. Some people think that it looks overdone or cheap or whatever, but red nails make me think of sexy confidence. Plus they make me feel like a femme fatale. This particular red reminds me of Marilyn Monroe, whom I looove.

Essie Summer Collection 2009 Preview

Alright, look at this link I got in my inbox the other day, previewing Essie's Summer collection. Essie, what happened?! The Winter collection was amazing, as was the Spring one, and the North Forks and the Neons. Now we get this blah, boring, tame collection? Booo! I mean, sure, they look like pretty pinks and reds, but how many pretty pinks and reds has Essie come out with in its lifetime? Countless ones. :(

Zoya Pippa

Today I'm am showing you Pippa, a yellow creme from the La-Di-Da collection. On the website Zoya describes Pippa as an 'ultra bright neon yellow'. I disagree. I mean, it is definately yellow. ;) But it's not neon or even ultra bright by any means.
I, personally, would describe Pippa as in-between banana and canary yellow on the color spectrum. It is a creme for sure, tending a teensy bit towards the chalky side. I'm not sure how this would look on darker skinned ladies. I'm extremely pale, so it looks good on me, but I stuck my nails next to my sister's olive complexion, and it looked like she would probly have zombie fingers if she put Pippa on.
This was the first Zoya I've tried that didn't have absolutely perfect application. Pippa applied very streaky, I needed 4 coats to get rid of all the streaks. Otherwise it was a very nice application.
Y'all may have noticed that my nails are pretty short now. I normally don't keep them very long, if you play any sort of instrument long nails are a no-no. Plus I just plain don't like extremely long nails. Anyways, camping really messes up your nails, and I went camping last weekend and broke a bunch of nails. So now they are short! But I'm not sad at all about it, as I have a piano recital on Friday and I would have had to chop them anyways ... I don't want any click-clacking during my performance! :)

Zoya Midori

Allow me to introduce Midori to y'all. Midori is the color of a green apple -the nice crunchy sweet yet tart kind - with a generous dose of gold shimmer. She makes everyone happy.
When I was applying this, the first coat made me think of sparkling limeade. But by the time I got to the second coat, it was green apple all the way.
This was even and lovely in 2 coats, but I used 3 out of habit. Midori is yet another Zoya that applies smoothly and without any hitches. I'm just in love with Zoya right now, both with the colors that they're putting out and with their formula. The formula is thin but not runny. Perfect!
Midori even matches my phone, see? :)

Zoya Tallulah

Say hello to Tallulah! I had to look up Tallulah on Wikipedia after I got this one, as I couldn't figure out why everyone was naming their nail polish Talllulah (there was another company that named a polish Tallulah, I can't remember who just now, blonde moment!). So now I know. What can I say, I was born in 1991 and my family doesn't watch many movies. haha!
Anyways, about the polish. SUCH A COOL COLOR! I was thinking of ways to describe it, and I came up with deep cool blue like the sea, but also bright hot blue like the middle of a very hot flame. So cool, yet warm. Ahh, love it.
Tallulah is from Zoya's summer collection Ooh-La-La, which Zoya claims is a collection of metallics. I beg to differ. While the polishes in this collection are certainly very shimmery and lovely, I would never call them metallic if I was asked to describe their finish. I actually don't like metallic polish that much if it's not silver, gold, etc. (one of the reason I didn't get any China Glaze Romantiques), so I'm not too sad about it. :)
Tallulah applied like a dream, and looks really good on. It made my dad comment on my improved application skills ... they really haven't improved very much, but the polish made it look like a pro applied it! Yay!

p.s. In the pictures I've got polish all over my cuticles, so sorry about that. I put it on right before leaving on a camping trip and didn't have time to clean up before leaving!

Searing Pink Brightness

Hola chicas! I have Zoya's Ali for you today. Ali is from Zoya's new summer collection La-Di-Da, and she is neon pink. Like, super neon pink. :D Like, hurts-your-eyes-to-look-at-it neon pink. It's effing awesome!
Y'all know that I normally don't like pink polish ... but I really really really love Ali. She makes my day.
Application was lovely and smooth, I only needed 2 coats to get full on neon hottness. :)
Oh, and a disclaimer about the picture. While my camera made Ali seem bright, it didn't make her seem neon. Rest assured, I'm not crazy. Ali really is neon. It's just that cameras have a hard time wrapping their little heads around neon nail polishes ... so neons never show neon. So just take the picture and make it about 5x neon-er in your head and you've got the right picture. ;)

My Rainbow Zoya Haul!

Darlings! Look what came for me in the mail yesterday
Yes, I know, that is an extremely blurry picture. But you get the lovely rainbow-y point. :)
Left - right we have America, Paz, Pippa, Midori, Tallulah, Jo, Ali, Trixie, and Ginessa. Yay!

You Don't Know Jacques

You Don't Know Jacques was a bit of a suprise to me when I put it on ... I was expecting a lighter tauper. YDKJ is actually a pretty dark chocolate-y taupe-y color. It's pretty hot too. :) You'll notice that my index finger is hiding in this picture ... that is because my Seche Vite died on me (really truly died this time ... no thinner will ever make it come back to life) in the middle of application. But new Seche has been bought and so rest assured that all four fingers will be flaunting their lovely polish in my next post. :)
YDKJ is from OPI's French collection of last Fall. I used 3 coats as it was a bit streaky. My brush was also a teeny bit wonky ... a couple of hairs were sticking out crazily on the sides, making application a little difficult. But it wasn't a huge deal. My Seche dying was a huge deal. haha! It's very traumatic for your holy grail top coat to just die on you like that in the middle of application! Ok, I'm rambling. I'm going to stop typing now!
p.s. Speaking of OPI, who's excited for their Fall 2009 collection? Have y'all seen the previews? There is a dark green! NOW I'm really going to stop typing. :)

OPI Russian Navy

When I looked at this in the bottle, I thought, "hmm, a less sparkly version of Ink", but I was wrong. In the bottle Russian Navy has a strong purple cast and doesn't seem very blue ... I was wondering why it was called NAVY. haha. :D
But once I put it on, the purple faded to the background and the glowy blue came out in full force. Lovely! :) This color is sophisticated and hot. Awesome.
I could have gotten away with 2 coats, but I used 3 anyways. As with all dark colors, the 3rd coat made it that much closer to black, so if you're trying to stay away from a blackened blue, use 2 coats.

Wednesday, May 6, 2009

Here's the photo we used for my graduation party invitations! Notice the nails. :)
My mama wanted 'candid' photos of me doing things I enjoyed ... each day she'd say, "Go put on something cute and play your flute!" or read, or play piano, etc. Sooo, not really candid. You can kind of see my weird mouth shape in the picture of me playing the flute ... I was trying not to laugh! You look weird anyway when you're playing the flute, and then for someone to be taking 'candid' pictures of you ... o dolls, it was pretty funny. :) The top left picture is not a candid picture, she wanted a 'happy' picture of me. ;) And the bottom middle picture is of me in Colorado on top of Vail Mt.
There you go, that's me!

I'm Taking My Private Jet

Hurr, tired of the silly titles yet? ;)
Here is My Private Jet, from OPI's Night Brights collection of a few years ago. It is black holo. How cool is that? In the bottle it looks like granite, or so my sister says, and I'm inclined to agree with her. On the nail it is uber cool ... but not as holographic-y as I'd like. It's holographic, but not insanely holographic, and if you're going holographic, shouldn't you go insane? :)
If you're not sure what holographic nail polish is, Nail Juice has a bar on the right hand side of her blog with some great explanations of different nail finishes. It is alphabetic, so you'll find holographic in the h's. :)
Anywho, back to the polish. Generally I shy away from wearing black ... I find it so dull and colorless (black is the absence of color, after all). If I want to wear a dark color, I'll wear a dark purple or dark blue or any other sort of vampy color, just not black. However, black holo? I'm cool with that! It's not really black black either, more like a dark charcoal. I've noticed that holo generally lightens up the color of the polish. Here's a picture of My Private Jet indoors looking 'granite-y'. And here is a close-up of it in the sunlight, so you can get a better idea of the intensity of the holo.
Sooo pretty. I love it. It made me feel high-class and rich. :)

OPI Haul and a Life Update

See what came for me in the mail the other day? :)
(l-r) Russian Navy, My Private Jet, You Don't Know Jacques!, Ink, Lincoln Park After Dark
I ordered these from 8ty8beauty.com for $4.48 each, and was really happy with how quickly they responded to my order. I got the order confirmation the day after I ordered, and received my package 3 or 4 days later. Happy Faithy! I will show y'all My Private Jet tomorrow.

Now for the Life Update part. I thought I should let y'all know which college I'll be going to next September. I sent in my deposit to Trinity University, a small liberal arts school in San Antonio, a few days ago. Yay! :) I'm really happy with my decision. San Antonio is a super cool and super fun city, and it's only 3 hours away ... so if I get majorly homesick I can come home for the weekend very easily. I'm also happy with the size; I think that there are about 2500 students, and the student-teacher ratio is 7:1 or something like that. :)

You Know, I'm Not Really A Waitress

Here we have one of OPI's classic shades, I'm Not Really A Waitress. It is a beautiful shimmery medium-deep red. I bought it because I though that any self-respecting nail fanatic should own this color, but then balked at putting it on. I'm very silly about reds ... I never want to wear them ... too 'common', but then I put them on and go, "Damn! That's hot!" The same is true with INRAW.
This color is hot. I felt like a femme fatale while I wearing it. :) Red nails make me feel confident and sexy ... I don't know why I always forget that when I'm not wearing red. haha.
We took my grandparents out for my grandma's 83rd birthday to a nice restaurant, and my nails went perfectly with the occasion.
Application was very nice ... the brush is so big that I almost got one stroke application. 2 coats were perfect.

A Lemming

OH MY GOD click on this link to see the beautiful beautiful Betsey Johnson dress I found. I think it should be my graduation party dress. What's that you say? It's $400? Nooooo!
And I know, I know. This is a nail blog, not a fashion blog. But it's my blog, so I can put whatever I want on it, right? :) Plus, you know that that dress is gorgeous.

Friday, May 1, 2009

Today I have for you my First. Yellow. Nail. Polish. Ever. And I really like it. :)
Yellow seems like a very tough color to pull off, nail-wise, and so I balked a bit before taking the yellow plunge. hehe. But this color plunge definately paid off. Just look at that beautiful yellow! It's another Piggy Polish, this time called Dog Daisies of Summer, and another super cool 'floaty' color. (now that name, I don't like. Dog Daisies of Summer? Duuuumb.)
From what I've read on other nail blogs, yellows are generally streaky and a general PITA to apply. But this was pure gorgeousness. I used 3 coats in the above picture, and while you can still see VNL (Visible Nail Line), somehow I don't mind. Normally, I hate VNL with a passion. Maybe I'm sick? Or maybe I just really like DDoS. :)
Like Lily's Pad, this color seems to glow. I'm likening it to sunshine through lemondrops. Make any sense at all? It makes sense to me. haha!
So, in summary, beautiful color, beautiful application, sunshine through lemondrops.
